Planning your website3 min read

Your first website: what should you prepare?

Your ideas, your services and a few examples of your work: getting started is often simpler than you think. Here is what to gather to move your project forward.

You want a website, but you do not have finished copy or a large photo collection. That does not prevent you from starting the conversation. Good preparation mainly means gathering what you already know about your business and deciding what you want to make easier for your customers.

Start with the requests you already receive

Write down the questions people keep asking over the phone. Which services do you offer? Which towns do you serve? Who is your work for? What does a customer need to request a quote? These answers suggest a first structure for the website without choosing a menu right away.

Then choose a main action: calling, sending an enquiry or booking an appointment. You can offer several ways to get in touch, but knowing your priority helps decide what deserves the most space.

Gather the facts, even as rough notes

A simple document is enough: business name, contact details, hours, service areas, services and the way you work. Add the details that truly distinguish you, such as a specialty or a particular method. An accurate list is more useful than a polished paragraph that could describe any business.

At ganolyk, website copywriting is included. You bring your knowledge of the trade; we help turn it into clear writing. You can then check the information and correct anything that does not reflect how your business works.

Choose images that tell people something

Collect your logo and a few photos of your projects, team or workplace. Keep the original files when you have them. For each project, explain what the photo shows and what you did: that context is just as useful as the picture itself.

Do not try to fill every section in advance. Identify missing images and those you can use with the agreement of the people involved. We can plan the visual needs together, depending on the project.

Prepare for the next decisions

If you already have a domain or professional email address, note which provider manages them. Choose who will approve the writing and design. Also identify the languages your customers need: English is available on request at no extra cost, based on the website content.

A single list of comments, gathered by the person responsible for the project, then helps everyone review the copy and make decisions without losing information across several conversations.

You are ready when you can explain your priorities and show what you have. Missing pieces become a working list, with the scope agreed before work begins. Our article on choosing between one page and several will help you narrow down the format.
